What is MOTUS? – MOTUS is an international research community working together to study the movement and behavior of mammals, birds, bats, and insects. The wildlife(birds) carry miniaturized radio tags that transmit information to MOTUS receiving stations, providing knowledge of the bird’s location without disturbing the bird. The tracking station adds location, time, and date and forwards this information to the central database. The central database combines data from other tracking stations to identify where the bird travels, summer and winter locations, and migration routes. This powerful conservation tool transforms how we understand and protect biodiversity and helps to direct conservation funds where they do the most good.
